Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is seeking a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on July 12, 2024.
In a letter addressed to the federal parliament on Friday, PM Prachanda mentioned that after one of the members of the ruling alliance withdrew the support to the government, he will seek a vote of confidence on July 12 in accordance with Article 100 (2) of the constitution of Nepal.
This will be the fifth floor test for Prime Minister Prachanda led government within a period of one and a half year. It is required for the coalition government to seek vote of confidence within 30 days if a coalition partner withdraws support.
Although large parties Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have asked Prime Minister Prachanda to step down and pave way to form a new government, the Prime Minister chose floor test instead of quitting power.
After largest party in the coalition CPN-UML with 79 seats withdrew support to the government, it has been virtually reduced to a minority one. Earlier Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN – UML chairman K.P. Sharma Oli inked a seven point deal to form a new coalition government on Monday night. As per the understanding, UML chair Oli will lead a coalition for a year and a half. As per the understanding, NC President Deuba will be the prime minister for the remaining term of the present parliament.
