The Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has recommended the government to open 57 new mountain climbing routes in different districts. The mountains that are being recommended have an altitude between 5,000 and 6,500 meters. The Department of Tourism has said that various peaks from Taplejung in the East to Dolpa and Humla in the West will be opened for climbing. According to the government’s policy of gradually opening the climbable mountains, new mountains are being opened for climbing, according to the pont 70 of the provisions mentioned in the annual policy and program of the current financial year 2080/81.
The department says that the government will create more opportunities for tourists by opening new mountains. So far, the government has opened 419 mountains for climbing. Of these, 68 mountains have not yet been climbed, but the department also says that tourism professionals have demanded to open new mountains and make it easier to lure tourists. At present there are more than 1300 mountains in Nepal, so there is a demand from tourism professionals to open up more mountains to attract tourists. Businessmen have been asking the government to open new mountains time and again. As the government opens more new mountains, the promotion of mountain climbing will become easier, according to tourism professionals.
The department said that these mountains are going to be opened for climbing, and has called on the stakeholders to provide any claims regarding opening or not due to religious, cultural and geographical reasons. In its notice, the department has also stated that it welcomes protest if any within a week and no action will be taken if the protest is not received within the period.
