Nepal to host International Expert Dialogue on Climate Change in May

Nepal government is scheduled to host an International Expert Dialogue on Mountain People, and Climate Change from May 22- 23 in Kathmandu with a view to promoting mountain agenda in the global forums.

“The international dialogue aims to strengthen, coordinate and prioritize mountain-based actions in the context of climate change and encourage mountain countries and agencies to collaborate on UN Framework Convention on Climate change (UNFCCC) mountain work programs and mandates,” reads out a press release issued by Ministry of Forest and Environment during a press meet organized in Kathmandu on Monday.

This international expert dialogue will help develop consensus among mountain countries, stakeholders, and allies on common issues, including mountain solutions in addressing climate change issues, remarked Environment Minister Naval Kishor Sah.

The dialogue also aims to produce concrete roadmaps and strategies for mountains at the expert’s dialogue on mountains and climate change, the press release adds.

More than 200 participants representing mountainous countries, international comunities, and development partners, international non-governmental organizations, private sectors and civili society organizations are expected to join the dialogue. Climate experts, high government officials, environment activists, media persons and various other stakeholders from over a dozen countries across the world are expected to actively take part in the dialogue.

The dialogue will have opening and closing plenary including thematic discussions in 3 major thematic areas including two plenary and seven dialogues in different dimensions of climate change adaptation and mitigation, according to the organizers. Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal “Prachanda” is scheduled to open the two day international dialogue on Climate Change being organized in Kathmandu next month,
