Ambassador Srivastava meets Home Minister, discusses security, border crimes

Indian ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane at the Home Ministry at Singhdurbar, Kathmandu on Tuesday. During the meeting they discussed about efforts required to further consolidating deep, wide and diversified people to people relations existing between the two countries based on historical ties and geographical proximity,” according to the secretariat of the Home Minister.

“The two sides agreed on the view that criminal activities have come under control despite having an open border between the two countries through effective coordination between the security mechanisms of the two countries.”

Ambassador Srivastava on the occasion underlined the need for strengthening border management mechanism to check small crimes and human trafficking in the border area through coordinated effort. Srivastava expressed India’s willingness to provide grant assistance for carrying out reconstruction works in earthquake hit Jajarkot and Rukm West districts of Western Nepal as well as providing specialized training to Nepal Police.

Home Minister Lamichhane on the occasion underlined the need to expand and upgrade mechanism in the border area for testing dose of pesticides in the fruits and vegetables being imported from India, so as to make them reliable, according the Home Ministry sources.

On the occasion, “ambassador Srivastava also expressed India is willingness to provide resource materials to Nepal for strengthening security and controlling terrorist activities saying that a secured Nepal is important for India’s own security.”
