Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has been appointed as the Minister for Youth and Sports during the latest cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal “Prachanda.” Shrestha assumed office on Wednesday. After taking oath at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Sheetalni was, he reached the ministry at Singha Durbar to take charge of the ministry.

Shrestha, who has become a minister for the first time, has pledged to end the politicization of the sports sector. “The unnecessary politics in the sports sector will lead to the exodus of players and that the overall sports sector has declined,” he pointed out.

Minister Shrestha said that he expects everyone’s support and suggestions. He said that he is serious about the mental health problem among Nepal’s youths and said that to resolve this, it should be done through employment and sports, and everyone should move forward in a participatory manner. Shrestha has decided to make a calendar of sports activities.

Minister Shrestha, a day after taking charge of the ministry Shrestha met Preeti, the midfielder of the Nepali National Women’s Football Team, who was injured in the final of the WAFF Women’s Championship, on Thursday at the B&B Hospital.

Shrestha is a member of Rastriya Swatantra Party. He was elected to the House of Representatives from Kathmandu 8 in the 2022 general elections. He previously served as a member of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly representing the Bibeksheel Sajha party.
