Senior cardiologist Dr. Om Murti Anil has set a Guinness World Record for the “Most viewers for a cardiovascular health awareness live stream on Facebook” on September 29, 2023. Forty five year old Dr. Anil conducted a live awareness program on heart health prevention on World Heart Day through his Facebook page and the half an hour presentation attracted 11,212 viewers.

The event garnered 9,000 shares, 20,000 likes, and 18,000 comments, according to Dr. Anil, who is also the Founder & Chairman of National Cardiac Centre, Kathmandu. “Dr. Anil’s achievement is seen as an inspirational milestone, emphasizing the importance of social responsibility and contributing to global awareness about heart health prevention,” reads a press release issued at the press meet organized at the National Cardiac Centre, Basundhara the other day. Dr. Anil had been conducting similar awareness campaigns for years on Facebook prior to this milestone.

Moreover, Dr. Anil dedicated himself to raise awareness about heart health, actively participated as a guest speaker for 44 consecutive weeks in the ‘Heart Health Awareness Radio Program’ on Image FM from 2013 to 2014. Due to his selfless commitment to public health and remarkable dedication, he was honored with another world record by the World Book of Records, London, in 2023. “I realized this achievement only a decade later,” he told The Nepal Weekly.

Born in 1978 at Dhamaura in Mahottari district of Southern Nepal, Dr. Anil has received DM (Doctorate in Medicine) Cardiology from All India Institute of Medical Science in 2011. He received his MBBS and MD Medicine from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He has also received Fellowships in Interventional Cardiology from the American College of Cardiology (ACC).

In 2014, Dr. Anil, organized one of the world’s largest free heart health camp in Kathmandu. The camp, spanning 11 days with the support of 200 volunteers, provided essential check-ups and examinations to over 5,600 individuals. He personally managed NRs. 5 million expenses for the free health camp. Motivated by the unfortunate instances of heart-related fatalities stemming from a lack of public awareness, Dr. Anil authored a book “Ma Pani Doctor” meaning “ I am also a doctor” in 2013. The book was unveiled by President of Nepal at Rastrapati Bhawan in 2013. The book offers a comprehensive outlook on heart attacks, heart disease symptoms, preventive strategies, and adopting a heart-healthy lifestyle, all from the perspective of a cardiology expert.
