The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has directed the government to restrict the sale and distribution of LPG cylinders weighing 50 kg to 450 kg.
A PAC meeting held on Monday instructed the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies to restrict the sale and distribution of 50 kg and 450 kg cylinders for industrial purposes including hotels illegally by gas bottlers.
Earlier, the PAC had written a letter to the Ministry, asking it to provide information within three days regarding the sale and distribution of 50 and 450 kg gas cylinders. But since the Ministry has not responded to the letter so far, the committee has also given instructions to provide the details along with the documents of the work done in this regard.
“The meeting of the committee instructs the Ministry to immediately halt such illegal activities and take legal action against the gas bottling plants involved in such illegal activities,” as mentioned in the directive.
