The key of seventh century historic shrine Kashthamandap and its account details have been handed over to Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Amidst a programme held in Kathmandu chairperson of Kashthamandap Reconstruction Committee Rajesh Shakya Sunday handed over the key, audit report, map and other relevant reports t to Basanta Adhikari, chief administrative officer of KMC.

Then president Bidya Devi Bhandari amidst a function on Chaitra 21, 2078, inaugurated the Kashthamandap, which was reconstructed at a cost of Rs. 1.15 million. The 1300 year old structure was devastated by the 2015 great earthquake. However, due to some legal dispute Kashthamandap has not been opened for the general public till date.

Handing over the report the committee has asked the KMC to take the responsibility of opening the Kashthamandap to the general public, to preserve the historical structure and to manage its entire affairs. However, sources close to the committee revealed that KMC received the audit report and other documents but did not receive the key. The reason for the same is not known yet. Kashthamandap has not yet been opened to the public even two years after its inauguration. People of Kathmandu are eagerly waiting for green signal from the KMC to enter the historic shrine. Will the KMC open the temple during Dashain festival?
