Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has assured that the government is serious about resolving the problems of the driving schools.
Receiving a memorandum submitted by a delegation of the Driving School Association of Nepal at his office in Singha Durbar on Monday, the Prime Minister also expressed commitment to take forward discussions on the existing issues through the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and the Department of Transport Management.
Among other things, the memorandum calls for incorporating a provision to present a certificate of having taken training from a driving school while registering an application for a driving license. The Association argued in the memorandum that the production of skilled drivers has decreased in the country and there is a big loss of life and property due to the increasing number of accidents in absence of this provision.
Similarly, the Association has demanded provide exemption on customs tax on vehicles used by the driving training centres in providing training to the learners and to make provision for the vehicles to be of the same colour. Association president Ram Chandra Shrestha said that through the memorandum a demand has also been made for having a provision so that all the training centres can use the training site commonly for the training purpose.
