Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has interrogated former Prime Ministers duo in connection with the ongoing investigation into Lalita Niwas land-grab scam. The CBI officials have taken statements from former Prime Ministers Madhav Kumar Nepal and Dr Baburam Bhattarai in connection with the land-grab scam involving valuable land pieces adjoining to the Prime Minister’s official resident at Baluwatar, Kathmandu, according to spokesperson for CIB Navaraj Adhikari.
Adhikari informed that the ex- Prime Ministers were interrogated on Sunday night. This is for the first time that the CIB took statement from the former Prime Minister.
“I have fulfilled my duty by providing accurate information to the CIB in accordance with my public commitment from the beginning regarding inquiries raised about the decisions made by my cabinet in the Lalita Niwas land-grab scam,” Bhattarai wrote in his twitter account. “I hope that this case will serve as a catalyst to eliminate all forms of corruption and irregularities within the nation, thereby ensuring good governance,” he pointed out. The CIB has already taken into custody over a dozen people including high government officials in this regard.
It is alleged that a huge amount of valuable land pieces belonging to the government was grabbed by some brokers with the help of high government officials and some politicians by creating fictitious owners of the land.
