Controversial figure Lharkyal Lama has been appointed Vice-chairman of the Lumbini Development Trust. Former Lawmaker Lama has earlier been charged in several cases including foreign employment fraud, accumulating property through illegal means and possessing dual citizenship and passport.
A cabinet meeting on Sunday took a decision to appoint Lama to the important post. Former central committee member of the CPN- UML, Lama, was the minister of state for Finance during Jhalanath Khanal led government in 2011. He had resigned from the post in 2011 April in just 11 days after assuming office as he ran into controversy for possessing a Nepali citizenship certificate and Indian passport and a Tibetan refugee identity card. He is currently appointed as the central member of the ruling CPN-Maoist Centre.
Meanwhile, organizing a press meet in Kathmandu Lama has refuted the charges. Some people have tried to sabotage against me by labeling various false charges though the court has cleared all, he claimed.
