Nepali Congress (NC) is all set to lead a coalition government in Kohi Province soon with the backing of CPN-Maoist Centre (CPN-MC). The top leaders of the ruling coalition including NC and the CPN (Maoist Center) have forged a deal to form a Nepali Congress led in Koshi.

A meeting of the top leaders of the ruling parties held at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence in Baluwatar on Monday decided to form a new government under the leadership of NC Parliamentary Party (PP) leader in Koshi Province, Uddhav Thapa, according to party sources. The government will be led by the ruling parties on a rotational basis as per the deal.

Nepali Congress sources said that the meeting decided to form the government under the leadership of NC for the first time in Koshi Province. “On behalf of the parties in the alliance, a decision has been taken to ask Uddhav Thapa, the leader of the NC PP, to assume the post of chief minister.”

In Koshi, CPN-UML leader Hikmat Kumar Karki lost his post as the chief minister last Friday as he failed to show his strength during a vote of trust. Koshi Province Governor Parshuram Khapung had called to form a government Sunday. But a dispute erupted between NC and CPN-Maoist Center as to who would lead the government first.
