In the first five months of 2023, 4,400,257 foreign tourists have entered Nepal via air. According to the data published by the Nepal Tourism Board in the month of May alone, 77,730 tourists visited Nepal by air. In January of this year, 55,074 tourists, in February 73,255, in March 99,426 and in April 98,773 tourists visited Nepal via air route.
According to the data, 36 thousand five hundred and 75 tourists have entered Nepal from India in the month of May as well. After India, 8,545 tourists came from the US, 4,667 from China, 2,927 from the UK, and 2,184 from Australia. 2 thousand 164 tourists from Bangladesh, 1 thousand 321 from Malaysia, 1 thousand 165 from Germany, 1 thousand 97 from France and 1 thousand 39 from South Korea.
The tourism sector, which had slowed down due to Covid- 19 is picking up speed recently. In 2019, around 1.2 million tourists arrived by air, but due to the Covid epidemic, the number of tourist arrivals in 2020 and 2021 was limited to 230,085 and 150,962 respectively. However, in the year 2022, there has been a significant increase in tourist arrivals to 614,869. In 2023, tourist arrivals are continuously increasing.
