Sherpa Tourism Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal (STEAN) organizing a programme in Kathmandu on the occasion of the International Everest Day, on Monday, felicitated 103 veteran Sherpa climbers and mountain guides.
Sherpa climbers, who scaled the Everest, the highest peak in the world at least for ten times and those creating new records in the Everest were felicitated a the programme chaired by chairman of STEAN Sangam Sherpa. Sanu Sherpa, who climbed all 14 peaks above 8,000 metre twice, Kami Rita Sherpa, who climbed the Everest for record 28 times and Pasang Dawa Sherpa, who climbed the Everest for 27 times were among those who received the honour. On the occasion four Sherpa brothers from the same family, who climbed the Everest, three Sherpa sisters, who climbed the Everest, and father son and daughter who climbed the Everest creating new records were also felicitated. Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation Suresh Adhikari was the chief guest at the programme organized by STEAN at Organic Farm House situated in Kapan of Kathmandu to felicitate the veteran Everest summiteers with the STEAN Historical Mountain Climbing Award 2023. Speaking on the occasion chairman of STEAN Sangam Sherpa said, that the government should recognize the brave Sherpas who sacrificed their lives to promote mountain tourism in Nepal and boosting the country’s image in international arena and provide them with various incentives and financial support.
