Pasang Dawa Sherpa has scaled Mt Everest for the 27th times, equalizing a world record of most ascents set earlier by Kami Rita Sherpa.
The 46-year-old mountaineer stood atop Mt Everest for the 27th time at around 8:25 am on Monday, Dawa Gyaljen Sherpa, Executive Director of Imagine Nepal Treks that organized the expedition told PTI. Pasang has become the second person in the world to reach atop the Everest for 27th times, he said. He has made to the top of the world twice in this spring. Earlier, he had summited the Everest 26th times on May 14. Born in Pangboche, near the Everest region, Pasang Dawa first summited the Everest in 1998.
Meanwhile, Kami Rita Sherpa, who has climbed the Everest for 27 times earlier, setting a world record, is also preparing to climb the Everest for the 28th times, according to Thaneshwor Guragain of the Seven Summit Trek. Kami is waiting for favourable time to scale the Everest for the second time in this season, to set another world record beating his own and Dawa’s record. Earlier, Kami had stood atop the Everest on May 17 for the 27th times.
The two veteran Sherpa climbers are competing with each other to set the world record in the Everest.
