‘LG Cine Circle Lifetime Achievement Award’ to Jetha Dai and Shantu

Jetha Dai (Kul Bahadur Mahat) and Shantu Tamang, who have been active in the Nepali film industry for more than four decades, were honored with the ‘LG Cine Circle Lifetime Achievement Award’ amidst a function on Friday.

The LG Cine Circle has honoured both of them for their outstanding contributions in the film industry. The Award carries certificate of appreciation and a purse of 51 thousand Nepali rupees each. Jetha Dai, who served as a cook and Shantu, who served as a makeup man in the Nepali film industry were honoured with the awards during a ceremony organized at the Nepal Army Officers’ Club, Sundhara.

Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav was the chief guest during the ceremony. On the occasion, Nepali films and artists whose films were screened in 2077, 2078, and 2079 were also honoured with awards of different categories.

The 69-year-old Jetha Dai came to this background from the movie Bansuri produced in 2037. He has acted in more than 100 Nepali and Bhojpuri films including Anyaya, Koseli, and Dui Thopa Aanshu, and has also worked as side actor in some of them.

The food prepared by Jetha Dai has been tasted by old generation actors like Nir Shah, Mah Jodi, Basundhara Bhushal, Rajesh Hamal, Karishma Manandhar as well as new generation actors Anmol KC, Pradeep Khadka, Swastima Khadka and Suraksha Pant.

Similarly, Shantu reached Kathmandu from Kavre at a young age. Born in a farmer’s family, he was able to establish himself as a stage assistant, make-up assistant and make-up man at the then Shahi Nepali Film Corporation.

He started working as an assistant make-up man for the film “Badalido Aakash” in the year 2036 BS and later from the movie Mayalu, he started working as a full time make-up man. In the year 2057 BS, he established his own make-up studio in Baghbazar, from where he also produced a lot of manpower. He has also worked as a member of various film-related organizations, having served as the vice-president to the president of the Nepal Film Technicians’ Association.
