The motto for the new session of parliament should be politics for law making and the new political parties and fresh parliamentarians could contribute to that motto in a substantial way, said some former parliamentarians in Kathmandu.

“Much has been done in showing political strength, political tactics, old-timers’ leadership games and speechifying but a lot remains to be done in the main sector of parliamentarians – the law making job.”

MPs of both ruling and opposition benches have much to offer in the exercise of law making. So many bills are already there in parliament seeking attention from the representatives of the people. “A number of others could be worked out to address the changing need of various sectors of Nepali society, institutions and professions.”

The Rastriya Swatantra Party, the fourth party in the parliament, could take lead in this regard from the opposition bench, noted a media analyst. The RSP MPs who are experts in various professions and sectors could utilize their skills in contributing to bill making in a meaningful manner.

“They are the ones who could show in practice how representatives could make a difference in parliamentary bill making sector,” observed a senior journalist.

“The RSP would be able to make its presence felt in the parliament and would display how opposition party could play a positive role in House-deliberations and introducing alternative ways to what government proposes in its schemes and bills.”

According to a senior politico, the RSP would provide an example of performing best from the opposition bench in the House of Representatives. “Their performance would be exemplary in the real sense of the term.”

Other fresh members of parliament are also eagerly waiting to contribute to value of discussion and parliamentary functions. “The ongoing session would be historic in terms of parliamentarians’ functioning,” hoped a columnist.
