CityNet Nepal National Chapter has started ground works to establish Disaster Risk Reduction Learning Centre. The meeting of City Net Nepal National Chapter held in Dhanagadhi the other day realising the need and importance decided to establish the centre. The meeting also decided to request Hetauda Sub Metropolitan City to provide land for establishing the proposed centre. Chairperson of City Net Nepal National Chapter who is also Mayor of Hetauda Sub Metropolitan City Mina Kumari Lama said that the meeting took it seriously. She said that she would put the agenda at Hetauda Sub Metropolitan City meeting to cooperate as far possible as the city has been taking disaster risk management reduction seriously.
Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiri Babu Maharjan said that other municipalities, sub metropolitan cities and metropolitan cities are ready to extend financial supports to the important task of managing and reducing disaster risks. He also added that development partners and donors also provide supports. Dhanagadhi Sub Metropolitan City mayor Gopal Hamal said that collaborating municipalities, sub metropolitan cities and metropolitan cities will be fruitful for gathering financial sources. Similarly Godawari Municipality mayor Gajendra Maharjan said that the proposal of establishing Disaster Risks Reduction learning Centre in the initiation of the national chapter is highly appreciable. All have to work together to accomplish it.
Mayors of Butawal Sub Metropolitan City Khel Raj Pandey and Ghorahi Sub Metropolitan City Narulal Chaudhary also spoke on the occasion while Surya Narayan Shrestha, executive director of National Society for Earthquake Technology – Nepal stated that local governments can play important role in creating public awareness on disaster risk reduction methods.
