Nepal govt. rescues 13 stranded Nepalese labourers from Malaysia

Nepal government has taken necessary measures to rescue 13 Nepalese nationals who were held captive in Malaysia. Efforts are underway to bring them back home as soon as possible, said a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs via Chief Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi to rescue the Nepalese held captive in Malaysia as soon as possible. Acting on the directive, the ministry has assigned the Nepali Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to take necessary measures to rescue the stranded Nepalese.

As per the arrangements, the workers’ recruitment companies will fund their return to Kathmandu whereas a Nepali hotel there has been asked to give them food and accommodation before that.

Earlier, Nepalese Embassy in Malaysia has established contact with the Triveni H.R. Solution Pvt Ltd, which is responsible for sending Nepalese labourers to Malaysia, after receiving complaint that 13 Nepalese labourers, who were flown to Malaysia did not get salaries and other facilities as mentioned in the contract. At the initiative of the Nepalese Embassy in Malaysia arrangements have been made for exit pass of the stranded labourers and their air tickets to return to Nepal, according to the ministry.

As per the arrangement, six Nepalese labourers will return to their home country on January 10 and seven others will return on January 13. The Nepalis were employed by PRS Forest Management Company in Malaysia. The company had kept the 13 Nepalese labourers as captive after they refused to perform their duty asking them to provide job ,  salary and other facilities in accordance with their contract paper.

Regarding 28 Nepalese labourers who were employed who were abused and beaten by the Hong Tze Enterprise Sdn Bhd, where they were employed, action is being taken against Khoji  Recruitment, responsible for sending the Nepalese labourers to Malaysia. The Malaysian police has also arrested those who, were involved in misbehaving with the Nepalese labourers and efforts are being made for their rescue.

Among them 9 Nepalese have already returned to the work as per their choice and eleven people are returning home on January 11. The remaining 12 Nepalese workers will get choice either to return home or to resume their work in Malaysia, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Nepalese Embassy in Malaysia is always committed towards protecting the rights and welfare of the Nepalese labourers working in the country, reads a statement issued by the embassy.
