Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Maha Prasad Adhikary participated in South Asia’s Path to Resilient Growth, a high level conference organized by International Monetary Fund in New Delhi, India on January 6, 2023.
A book entitled “South Asia’s Path to Resilient Growth” published by the IMF was released during the opening of the international conference. On the occasion, Deputy Director of IMF Antoienette Sayeh presented a brief notes on the book.
Participating in the high level panel discussion programme on the occasion, Governor Adhikary said, that Nepal achieved remarkable progress in electronic payment system, during the post Covid- 19 period, which will help in promoting transparency and good governance as well as checking money laundering activities.
On the occasion he also underlined the need for moving the country towards the path of sustainable economic growth through structural reforms in the country’s economy, which has been facing many challenges such as inadequate foreign currency reserve and the economy based on revenue and remittance by converting the problems resulting from the global geo-political imbalance into an opportunity.
During the opening session, Shaktikanta Das, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India put forth his view regarding the issue of economic crisis through which the South Asian region is currently passing. He also underlined the need for checking inflation, managing risk related to external loan, increasing productivity, ensuring energy security, and bringing about coordination for maintaining green economy in the SAARC region with high priority.
The conference was attended by high officials of IMF and Governors of the central banks of the SAARC member states. Governor Adhikary, on conclusion of the conference, returned home on Saturday.
