Disabled Care Nepal donates laptop to Shankharapur Municipality

Disability Care Nepal has handed over one (one) Dell laptop to Shankharapur Municipality in Sankhu, Kathmandu as a form of support. After reaching the municipality on Wednesday afternoon, the president of DCN, Birod Khatiwada, handed over the laptop to the Mayor (city head) of the municipality, Ramesh Napit. On the occasion, the president of the organization Khatiwada informed that the women, children and senior citizens branch of the municipality, which has been working in the field of disability, will utilize the laptop. He said that since there is a lot of work to be done in the field of disabled people and women and children branch works in the disabled area, the laptop has been provided to facilitate the service. He said that since he was informed that the branch lacks laptops and since he also works in the field of disability, he felt that not only taking but also giving as much as he can and working in cooperation, the organization gathered the necessary support.

Khatiwada informed that although a letter was sent from the branch to the organization on August 1 last year for laptop support, it was delayed due to various reasons. On this occasion, Nirjala Chudal Adhikari, working in the women’s branch, was awarded a certificate of appreciation. Surya Kumari Neupane, who works in the Women, Children and Senior Citizens Branch of the municipality, expressed the view that disabled people should be active for their rights and that disability-related committees should be active in each ward. Neupane said that 13 disabled people have been given support amounting to Rs. 5,70,000 through the Deputy Mayor Support Program, which started last year. She informed that when the sisters of the Women’s Committee collected the data from the budget sent by the local government two years ago, they found that there were only 254 disabled people in the municipality.

After listening to the president of the organization Khatiwada and the staff of the branch, Mayor Napit in his remarks said that it is necessary to launch an awareness program related to people with disability in all the wards within the municipality. In addition, he has promised to advance the work for the rights and welfare of all kinds of disabled people in the municipality in coordination with the organization.
