The Nepal Weekly
The country’s political stability for the next five years depends entirely on how senior, most seasoned top four leaders – Deuba, Prachanda, Paudyal, Nepal – manage their personal ambitions for power and posts.
If they could demonstrate patience in pleasing their self interest as per the recent election’s message, the country could witness a comfortable transfer of power in key posts at federal and provincial levels, observe senior politicos while watching how the parties are moving forward for new parliamentary beginning.
“If they go after their ego, the country will face instability soon at different levels. Oli could enter into the scene and further weaken present ruling coalition. Then the country will witness yet another scenario of worst horse trading, vendetta, threats and dirty power political tricks, which will serve none positively.”
There is a room for open dialogue and negotiation for not breaking up the current ruling coalition in offering the country a new government, new provincial government, new – president, vice-president, PM, speaker, deputy speaker, new chief ministers, new provincial chiefs, etc. The same, media analysts say, would be able to lay a sound foundation for future despite the reality of hung parliament besides removing threat of political instability.
A few politicos argue the old guards’ previous policies of grabbing power for self at any cost will not change: they will begin squabbling from day one in parliament. Others however opine the old leaders understand the present reality and newly elected leaders and youths in their parties will not allow them to pursue their worn out past tricks. The new generation leaders and youths, according to senior politicos, will have to be very concerned, conscious and careful in checking their senior most leaders.
Some former parliamentarians, therefore, encourage the freshly elected leaders and youths of parties to move forward and not allow their leaders’ ambitions destroy the possibility of political stability in the country.
One said frankly this time “they should not be afraid of going against their own leaders for the sake of country’s political stability. They should understand that they will have to secure future of parties and their own future politics.”
