The Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has begun groundwork related with operating international flights from Bhairahawa-based Gautam Buddha International Airport. NAC is planning to operate international flights to Malaysia and Qatar from the airport, according to sources at NAC. According to NAC spokesperson Archana Khadka the Corporation has initiated the process to get permission for flights to Malaysia and Qatar and for overflying through other countries including India, Burma, Bangladesh and Thailand.

NAC would make its flights to both the countries from Kathmandu first and land in Kathmandu via Bhairahawa while returning, informed Khadka. The NAC has placed a plan to make a flight to Malaysia and two flights to Qatar in a week, according to NAC Chair Yubaraj Adhikari. The number of flights can be increased on demand in coming days, he added. NAC would make a touchdown flight at the Bhairahawa-based airport on December 19 and begin commercial flights to the two destinations. Currently, Kuwait’s Jazeera Airways and Nepal’s Himalaya Airlines have started commercial flights from Bhairahawa-based international airport.
