Upper Balephi ‘A’ Hydropower Project will be supplying 36 MW of electricity to the national grid starting from Monday. Umesh Kumar Kasaju, chairman of Balephi Hydropower Company, informed that they are now at the stage of final testing of the infrastructures including transmission line and transformers. The project is located in Sindhupalchok district. Kasaju said they will be supplying electricity to Nepal Electricity Authority as a two-week trial from Monday. “After completing a two-week trial production, we will go into commercial production,” he informed. The project had planned to supply its production to the national grid a few months ago. But it was delayed due to the floods and landslides in the district during last rainy season. The project has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 7 billion. Of the total cost, 30 per cent is debt while 70 per cent is equity. A consortium of five banks has funded for the project.
