Amnesty to 681 prisoners on constitution day

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has granted amnesty to 681 prisoners completing the specified sentence and those who are yet to complete their jail term. 

The amnesty was granted on the occasion of the Constitution Day-2079 BS which falls on September 19. President Bhandari granted amnesty to these convicts on the recommendation of the cabinet meeting held on September 16, according to the Office of President. The amnesty became effective from September 19.

There are 203 inmates getting amnesty on the basis of good conduct in jail including Pasang Sherpa while jail terms were exempted for 478 inmates including Indra Kumar Limbu, according to the press statement issued by Sagar Acharya, Spokesperson at the Office of President.

The amnesty was granted in accordance with the Article 276 of the Constitution of Nepal and Criminal Offenses Act-2074 BS.
