The French parliamentary delegation, which is currently in Nepal, had a courtesy call with speaker of the House of Representatives, Agni Prasad Sapkota. The delegation headed by Daniel Salmon, Chairman of the France-Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group, met Speaker Sapkota at latter’s ofice at Singha Daurbar on Thursday morning. During the meeting, Speaker Sapkota said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and France in 1949, the relations between the two countries have been harmonious, friendly, equitable and based on mutual understanding. He expressed the belief that the high-level visit would help enhance the bilateral relations. Speaker Sapkota while appreciating France’s support to Nepal’s democratic process, recalled the fundamental values established by the historic French Revolution.
Speaking about the impact of climate change that is directly affecting many countries in the world Sapkota stressed on the need for all to forge collaboration against the challenge posed by climate change. He expressed his gratitude to the French government and the French people for their support in the medical field including providing with COVAX to fight against Covid-19. During the meeting, President Salmon of the France-Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group expressed his gratitude for the hospitality they received in Nepal. He emphasized that everyone should use their strength to mitigate the impact of climate change. He said that the works done by Nepal in the field of climate is commendable.
During the meeting, Véronique Riotton, President of the France-Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group, expressed his gratitude to their team for the hospitality shown in Nepal adding that she felt honoured. Other members of the delegation were informed about the exercises done by the National Assembly of France, and expressed the view that the exchange of bilateral visits would be a learning opportunity for both the Parliaments. The French delegation was attended by Véronique Riotton, President of the Friendship Group, members Greziella, Nicolas FORISSIER and Gilles BOURBAO, Ambassador of France to Nepal.
