Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand on Monday instructed the authorities concerned to release Security Guard Sherjung Gurung, who was detained by the police for allegedly asking Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jeevan Ram Shrestha to stand in queue.

According to sources at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Minister Khand ordered the Chief District Officer of Kathmandu Govinda Prasad Rijal to release Gurung from the police custody.

On Friday, Minister Shrestha, who reached the VFS Office at Chhaya Center in Thamel to apply for a visa to travel to Canada, had verbal squabble with Gurung. Gurung, a security guard mobilized from Garud Securities, asked everybody including Minister Shrestha to stand in line as he tried to breach the queue of visa applicants. However, Minister Shrestha claimed that Gurung misbehaved with him and his personal security officer in the incident, which has been denied by Gurung.

The directive from Home Minister Khand comes amid pouring of huge public comments against the arrest of Gurung in social media.
