Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pande is scheduled to pay a five day official visit to Nepal starting from September, 2022 at the invitation of Nepal Army chief Gen. Prabhu Ram Sharma. The main purpose of the visit is to receive the title of honorary General of Nepal Army to be conferred by President Bidya Devi Bhandari, according to Nepal Army spokesperson Narayan Silwal.

There is a long tradition between Nepal Army and Indian army to confer the title of honorary general to the army chiefs of Nepal and India and the forthcoming visit is also aimed at the same, Silwal said. The formal announcement of the visit has not yet taken place and we are working out the detailed itinerary of the visit, he told The Nepal Weekly. During the visit, efforts will be made to strengthen military ties and bilateral cooperation between the two countries, he pointed out. Last year, Nepali Chief of Army Staff Sharma paid a visit to India from November 9 to 12 when he was conferred with the honorary General title of the Indian Army by the president of India.
