Towards General Election

The political mood of the country is now governed by the general election scheduled to be held at the year-end when the five year tenure of the current parliament and provincial assemblies ends. The coalition government, the opposition party and others who participated in the recently held local government polls appear ready to go for general election. The provincial leadership is also ready for this. The Election Commission is in a state of preparedness. Small parties not being able to perform well in local polls do not have any say on this because they appear further disappointed about their ability to perform well in the general election. Some politicos inspired by tremendous success of some independent candidates in local polls think about being independent candidates in parliamentary and provincial polls. Whether the same will pick up speed as a wave in six months or not cannot be forecast at the moment. Political parties with history and sound organization will take this move seriously and do things to avoid shameful showdown in the presence of the independent candidates. Competition among politicos aiming at candidature for parliament or provincial assemblies is getting keener by the day. Incumbent members appear rather nervous about their future in view of their poor performance. Youth leaders of most parties appear determined to press central leadership to provide them more space in candidature. Top leaders habituated to pick up candidates loyal to them are also facing challenges of sorts from their youths and first time voters who mostly prefer new faces and fresh spirit in politics. Poll partnership among big political parties will continue in the parliamentary provincial assembly polls while small parties will also join hands with like- minded political entities. The parties which had earlier come forward for emerging as alternative to grand old parties- democratic or communist – appear weak this time to offer challenge. Most of them will perhaps not join the race as single entities.
