Minister for Urban Development Ram Kumari Jhakri has called for socially excluding those who encroach public land. Stating that the public land along the river is being encroached under the protection of leaders and parliamentarians, she said that those who do wrong should be publicly boycotted.

Addressing the 28th anniversary celebration of the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization on Monday, Minister Jhakri also claimed that the main reason behind the pollution in Bagmati River is due to the pollution of political figures.

“Anyone who encroaches public land should be socially excluded,” Minister Jakri said. “Leaders and parliamentarians are protecting those who encroach public land. Such actions should be discouraged.”

The government could address the unmanaged settlements along the river bank through a joint housing program, pointed out Minister Jhankri adding that the problem has been created due to rumors that they will eventually get land along the river bank. Stating that the existing laws and resources can make the Bagmati civilization clean and beautiful, Minister Jhakri called for commitment from all stakeholders concerned in the matter.
