Film industry gradually recovers as the pandemic slows down

Different areas of the country blocked by the Corona pandemic  are gradually  returning to normal. In the same manner cinema industry is also returning to normal with the restrictions put on film halls being lifted across Nepal. As the number of Covid – 19 cases has declined film producers have also started announcing  the dates for releasing new films.

Though a number of films were produced during the pandemic period the, their screening were halted due to growing health related risks. As the local administration instructed the cinema halls to halt the screening of movies, the cinema industry suffered a lot.

The screening of Nepali films like ‘Chapali Height’ and ‘Kathaputali’, which were halted due to Corona, were released again but they could not earn as much as expected. Then came the performance of ‘ Mah Yesto Geet Gauchu 2’.

This film created a new atmosphere in the film industry. The film manages to pull the audience to the hall. This was the first new movie that was released on 25th of February after Corona pandemic slowed down. Soon after that, the cinema halls also started screening a number of other movies as well. ‘Lappan Chappan’, ‘Akase Kheti’ and ‘Chiso Ashtray’ were some of the movies released after the Corona. But film distributors say that these films did not earn as per expectation. Similarly, the movie ‘E Mero Hazur 4’ directed by Jharna Thapa is scheduled to be released on April 14, coinciding with the New Year 2079. The film was directed by Sanjay Lama and produced by Sunil Kumar Thapa. The film features actors Anmol KC and Suhana Thapa.

The movie ‘Mantra’ starring Saugat Mall is being prepared for release from next 29th April. Diya Pun’s performance will be seen along with Saugat in the film based on the love story of the Himalayan region. The film directed by Khil Bahadur Gurung will feature stars like Buddhi Tamang, Namita Ghising, Bir Bahadur Lama, Pasang T Sherpa among others. Devendra Manandhar is the executive producer and Raviraj Karki, Suresh Karki and Shubh Shrestha are the producers.

The movie ‘Lakka Jawan’, directed by comedian Shivahari Poudel, is set to release in cinema halls on May 6 starring Dilip Rayamajhi, Priyanka Karki, Salon Basnet, Varsha Siwakoti, Kiran KC, Shivahari Poudel, Rajaram Poudel, Sushil Pokhrel, Saroj Khanal, Anusuyasha Shrestha, Surendra KC, Jayananda Lama, Savita Gurung, Yaman Shrestha, Vimala Giri and others. The film depicts the story of elderly people. Comedian Madan Krishna Shrestha will be seen in a guest appearance in the film. ‘Lakka Jawan’, made under the banner of ‘Aama Bagalamukhi Film Production’, will be screened soon at home and abroad.

The movie ‘Life in LA’, which was shot in the United States and Nepal, is scheduled to hit theaters on May 20. The movie directed by Surya N Shrestha has a triangular love story. The film stars Gaurav Pahari, Buddhi Tamang, Prakash Ghimire, Lokendra along with writer Jared Bilps, Sam Bhujel, Jayendra Chiluwal among others. Presented under banner of Beas Entertainment, the film is produced by Beas Bissu.

The ‘Premgunj’ unit has announced that it will be on display on August 19 through video. Written and directed by Parichched Sen, the film stars Benisha Hamal, Tej Giri, Sampada Bania, Pawan Bhattarai, Supriya Khanal, Ryder Prashant, Simran Khadka, Naresh Poudel, Rashmi Bhatt and Geeta Adhikari among others. Raju Phuyal, who has been working as a spot spender for a long time, is presenting the film under the banner of the movie Chautari. Anantaman Shrestha as the executive producer and Sanjay Lama as the cinematographer of the film.

Director Dipendra K Khanal’s film ‘Chiso Manche’ is scheduled to be screened in cinema halls on June 17 . The film shows the struggle to bring the body of a Nepali worker who arrived in Malaysia to sell labor after his death.

According to film distributor Kiran Shrestha preparations are underway to release the Nepali feature film ‘Chakka Panja 4’ on the occasion of Tihar. Deepashree Niraula has been directing the ”Chakka Panja ’’series. Along with Deepashree Niraula, Deepak Raj Giri, Kedar Ghimire, Jeetu Nepal and other actors can be seen in the film.

‘Parastri,’ directed by Suraj Pandey, is set to be released on October 23 next year. Produced in two languages, Nepali and Hindi, the film is being presented under the banner of DS Digital. The film stars Koshis Chhetri, Shilpa Maskey, Gaurav Bista, Alisha Chhetri, Ashant Sharma and others.
