Nepal Red Cross Society Ganabahal sub-branch has organized a blood donors motivation programme in Ganabahal on Saturday. The programme jointly organized by Nepal Red Cross Society Ganabahal in association of The Shakya Foundation was attended by around 60 people.
Speaking on the occasion chairman of the sub-branch Amrit Narayan Manandhar shed light on the contributions made by Henry Dunant, known a father of Red Cross. Dunant was a trader, who took initiative to form an organization to take care of war wounded people after he witnessed the thousands of casualties left at the end of Solferino war that occurred in 1859 in the present day’s Italy. Inspired by the incident he formed an international committee for the treatment of war wounded people and managing dead bodies in 1863 with the help of other five colleagues. The committee later turned into International Redcross. Nepal Red Cross Society was established 100 year later in 1963 (2020 B.S.) according to Manandhar.
During the programme Dr. Manita Rajkarnikar, chief of Health Department of Nepal Red Cross Society, BImala Manandhar, chairperson of Jana Chikitsalaya and Dr. Prakash Yadav of Public Health Department under the Ministry of Health and Population, spoke about the importance of blood donation at the time of crisis such as the present day pandemic.
