Government preparing to classify manpower agencies

The Ministry of Labour and Employment is preparing to classify registered foreign employment agencies or manpower companies for making the foreign employment sector systematic. A task force headed by joint secretary Rajiv Pokharel has been constituted to prepare necessary working procedure and fix weightage for fixing basis for measurement and classification standard, according to sources at the ministry.

The task force includes as its members chief of Foreign Employment Office, CEO of Foreign Employment Board and representatives of manpower agencies. The classification of the manpower agencies will allow the employment seekers to discriminate between good and bad foreign employment agencies, said Minister for Labour and Employment Krishna Kumar Shrestha.

After the classification, the government will work out a plan to reform manpower agencies to make the foreign employment sector prestigious and systematic, he pointed out. Currently there are 860 manpower agencies operating across Nepal.
