President, PM and others pay tribute to martyrs
Giving a message of best wishes on the occasion of the Martyrs Day, President Bidya Devi Bhandari wished the Day inspire all to work devotedly to realize the dream of the martyrs. The martyrs had sacrificed their lives for the rights of the people and country.
President Bhandari has said it would be a true tribute to the martyrs to ensure durable peace, good governance, development and prosperity in the country by effectively implementing the federal democratic republic achieved with the sacrifices of martyrs.
All sides should contribute from their sides to build an equitable and civilized society by highly respecting the contribution of the martyrs.
She also reminded the role played by the martyrs at different movements as Shukra Raj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dasharath Chand and Ganga La lShrestha. They were given sentence by the then Rana ruler in 1941 AD.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba reached the martyrs’ memorial ground at Lainchaur in the capital to pay his respects to the martyrs of the country and remember them on the occasion of Martyr’s Day .Ministers, high-ranking government officials, people’s representatives including Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor and members of the security forces also paid their respects to the martyrs.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, on the same occasion, had mentioned that that people’s rule in the country was established following the massive political changes due to martyrs’ sacrifices and dedication for the country’s development and transformation, keeping aside their personal interests.
In his message, PM Deuba said that different political changes from 2007 BS to 2062/63 BS remained successful for the establishment of democracy in the country due to the martyrs’ devotion, dedication and sacrifices.
PM Deuba expressed his highest tributes to all known and unknown martyrs for sacrificing their priceless lives for the cause of democracy and the democratic system in the country. He had also wished for a speedy recovery of those injured during their struggles for democracy.
The PM has wished that Martyrs’ Day should inspire all to materialise the dream of beautiful Nepal envisioned by the martyrs and follow the path of truth, justice, and equality shown by the martyrs.
Since 1955 AD, Martyr’s Day is celebrated on Magh 16 every year according to Nepali calendar in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the establishment and restoration of democracy and freedom of people in different periods. The day is being observed by organizing various programs across the country.
