Chief Minister of Province 1 Bhim Acharya has tendered his resignation from the post. Acharya announced his resignation even before seeking the vote of confidence at the provincial assembly.
Acharya, who was appointed as the chief minister on August 26, was left in the minority on September 10 after the split of the CPN-UML. This has paved way for five party alliance candidate Rajendra Rai to stake his claim over the vacant post.
Achaya fell into the minority after 10 lawmakers of the CPN-UML shifted their support to the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led CPN (Unified Socialist). He had earlier sought a vote of confidence under the constitutional process.
Last week, another UML chief Minister Ashta Laxmi Shakya had resigned from the post after she fell into minority in Bagmati Province. As the post fell vacant, Rajendra Panday from CPN (Unified Socialist) took charge as the new Chief Minister on behalf of the five party ruling alliance.
