Dhulikhel Municipality has been elected as a member of World Smart City Association. The membership will be effective for 2021 to 2023. The fifth general assembly held recently has provided membership to Dhulikhel.
The association has 136 members from different countries around the world and a committee of 17 members to execute its plan, policies and activities.
Dhulikhel has recently been declared as the fifth city in the world and first city in Asia to develop eco-friendly by emitting zero carbon which is said to have laid foundation of a healthy city of Dhulikhel. The list was published a month ahead of the United Nations climate summit (COP 26) to be held in Glasgow, UK. The list includes Sydney, Melbourne, Toronto, Barcelona, LosAngels.
Similarly, a ‘Food Green City’ programme will be launched soon in Dhulikhel to scientifically solve the health problems caused by environmental pollution and urbanisation. An agreement has been signed between Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and Dhulikhel Municipality to run this programme. The MoU was signed by Mayor of DhulikhelAshok Kumar ByanjuShresthaand Vice Chancellor of NAST Sunil BabuShrestha.
On the occasion, Mayor BanjuShrestha said that this programme will make the city clean and beautiful in sustainable and scientific way to solve environmental pollution and health problems”.
Similarly NAST VC Shrestha said that an agreement has been signed with the city to make the city a sustainable food green city through scientific means. “This programme will reduce unemployment to some extent if local resources can be identified and used,” he added. According to him, the programme will also induce the production, use and research on herbs.
Byanju informed that to make clean and beautiful, additional programmes will be undertaken to make it a clean and beautiful city in a sustainable manner including youth entrepreneurship, employment management, scientific processing, shortage and marketing of medicinal plants, mushrooms and fruits. Similarly Dhulikhel Municipality has endorsed the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Movement. Dhulikhel is the first city to endorse the global movement in launched recently.
