Hearing on House dissolution: Government side presents its arguments

As the Supreme Court continues hearing over Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s decision to dissolve the House of

Representatives, the government side has started presenting its arguments on Monday.

Lawyers representing the petitioners including Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba had concluded their arguments on Sunday after four days of continuous hearing.

Because the petitioners’ side took four days to complete their pleading in the allotted 12 hours, the government side, with an allotment of 15 hours is likely to take the rest of this week.

Attorney General Ramesh Badal is pleading for the first three hours. The defendants’ argument will be followed by the petitioners’ counterarguments at the concluding session.

Likewise, the court has also sought four senior advocates’ help as amicicuriae, who will present their views after the petitioners’ counter argumentation.

The final verdict in the debate is expected in half a month’s period. The Apex Court bench comprising Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana and justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Mira Khadka, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Ananda Mohan Bhattarai is hearing the debate.
